CPD Requirements for ASTTBC

All practising registrants of the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) must complete 12 CPD hours annually. The CPD year runs from December 1 to November 30.

Requirements:

• A total of 12 CPD hours per year must be completed.
• At least 2 hours must focus on Indigenous awareness and reconciliation.
• The remaining 10 hours may be drawn from eligible CPD activities.
• CPD must be relevant to a registrant’s discipline, professional practice, or development of technical and ethical competency.
• Ineligible activities include undocumented or unverifiable learning, partially completed courses, repeated activities within the same CPD cycle, or activities that are part of a registrant’s full-time employment duties.

Accreditation & Eligibility:

• CPD activities are grouped into categories such as Courses, Teaching, Presenting, Content Development, Research, Technical Training, and Volunteering.
• Courses must include an evaluation or examination to test learning outcomes. Audited courses (without an exam or quiz) may be claimed under Technical Training instead.
• Technical Training includes seminars, workshops, webinars, field trips, or on-the-job training.
• Content Development includes preparing technical papers, developing instructional materials, or contributing to codes and standards.
• Volunteering may be counted if it contributes to professional practice (e.g., serving on advisory committees, participating in statutory committees, or acting as a subject matter expert).
• Members may select CPD from any provider; ASTTBC does not accredit or endorse external training providers.

Recording, Reporting, and Audit:

• CPD must be recorded in the ASTTBC online system no later than November 30 each year.
• Members must log activity details, hours, and supporting documentation (e.g., certificates, transcripts, written summaries, employer confirmations).
• Registrants must retain records in case of audit.
• Annual random audits are conducted to ensure compliance. Members selected will be notified and must provide all supporting evidence.
• Registrants may request extensions or accommodations under ASTTBC Bylaws for extenuating circumstances (medical or otherwise) by submitting a request form to the Registrar.
