The "Transpired Solar Collector" is a simple, low-tech, inexpensive means of preheating outdoor ventilation air coming into a building, thus reducing the energy requirement from traditional sources for building heating. It is basically a dark, perforated metal wall installed on the south side of a building to preheat incoming outdoor ventilation air during the heating season. Learn more about this innovative technology in this course.
Topics: components and general configuration building, site and climate characteristics necessary for a successful transpired collector installation building, site and climate characteristics that would disqualify a building for transpired collector installation sizing calculations energy saving calculations
Intended Audience: for energy, mechanical, chemical, construction, and civil engineers. However, this course could appeal to engineers of other disciplines as well. An attendee of this course will gain knowledge about transpired collectors and their use for preheating of outdoor ventilation air.
